Blogging Mistakes to Avoid

You have a website for your business. Maybe you currently have a blog or you’re thinking about adding one, but you’re not exactly sure where to start or what to do. Blogging is definitely not as easy as one may think and there are always mistakes you want to avoid. Let’s take a dive into some of these mistakes to ensure your website is getting the most from your blog.

Inconsistent writing

Keep your blog on a regular schedule. Blogging often is crucial to gaining and keeping the interest of readers. Produce as much content as you can so you’re constantly delivering value. Blogging can get tiring when it comes to new ideas, so always be brainstorming and researching what your target audience is searching for or asking questions about. Give the readers what they want!

Choosing the wrong topics

Focus on your audience and topics that are relevant to them. Don’t use your blog to talk about your business too much. Instead of writing content that is suited for a company newsletter, write from an educational, informational point of view. The reader is coming to the blog to learn or get answers, not to watch you brag on yourself or your business.

Content not being user-focused

When writing your blog article, you must put yourself in the shoes of your reader. You want your content to answer questions and be educational, rather than turning it into a big promotion. Readers want answers, not a sales pitch.

No next action

Having a “next-step” plan for your readers to take is a must while writing your blog. So they finished reading… are there other articles they should read? Maybe a webinar they can sign up for? Keep your readers engaged, make them keep wanting to learn from you!

Not repurposing content

Repurposing old content is so important (and makes your job a little easier). You already have the idea and content, now spice it up a bit. Find an old article that gained a lot of traffic and think about what else you could do with that content. Turn it into a video to share on your blog, or perhaps turn it into a podcast episode. If the content is still relevant, it will be sure to gain all that traffic once again.

Terrible post titles

A boring or confusing blog title can wreak havoc on your blog. Not only should your title tell people what the article is about, but it also needs to be enticing enough to get people to click and read the content. You can write the most incredible blog post, but if your title lacks the same flair, odds are, no one will even get to the good stuff. Be sure your title contains target keywords, isn’t misleading and uses interesting superlatives or specific questions to target exact queries.

Missing SEO best practices

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) plays a huge role in generating traffic to your blog. Having content that is structured correctly and that uses specific keywords goes a long way. You must understand user intent behind possible searches relating to your blog and do keyword research before you begin writing.
